Book Review From a Well Known Source and Citation

Forever by Judy Blume

There’s a first for everything.
When you build up something in your mind — really imagine it, wish for it — sometimes, when it actually happens, it doesn’t live up to your expectations.
True love is nothing like that.
Especially not for Katherine and Michael, who can’t get enough of each other. Their relationship is unique: sincere, intense, and fun all at the same time. Although they haven’t been together all that long, they know it’s serious. A whole world opens up as young passion and sexuality bloom.
But it’s senior year of high school, and there are big changes ahead. Michael and Katherine are destined for another big “first”: a decision. Is this the love of a lifetime, or the very beginning of a lifetime of love?
I read Forever by Judy Blume for the first time when I was in high school. My copy got passed around and eventually it came up missing. The same thing happened to two different copies that belonged to my daughter, Katie. I have heard of this happening over and over again from other readers.
Judy Blume is probably most known for her work in tween books, but I can tell you that she has a gift as a writer of books that capture the attention of YA girls and what some of them go through in relationships. Blume wrote Forever before its time. Not that YA readers couldn’t benefit from this awesome book , evern then, but because she writes in a very real way, expressing truth in what some girls experience regarding romance and a sexual relationship. So much so that Forever was a banned book when it was originally released.
I am a little surprised that I still read some complaints about the sexual content. While Blume writes details that may be uncomfortable for some younger teens, I find this romance informative and a warning to girls of the consequences of being pressured into something that they are not ready for. Forever is a book that should be read more in every generation than the last.
